Dipharma’s article on La Chimica e l’Industria, n.5/2020, the special session dedicated to solid state

Original, generic or… polymorphic? A Journey into the Crystal Chemistry of Drugs” is the title of the article published on La Chimica e l’Industria online, n. 5/2020, which opens the special session dedicated to solid state.

Chiara Vladiskovic, Solid State Expert at @Dipharma Francis S.r.l., is the co-author of the article, together with Norberto Masciocchi, Professor of Chemistry at University of Insubria.

Abstract:

The vast majority of widely marketed drugs is nowadays formulated using pharmaceutically active ingredients in their solid (crystalline or amorphous) state. The specific solid form is carefully chosen to increase the solubility of the drug, to facilitate its formulation, to optimize the dosage and, last but not least, to simplify its usage. In the last years, research and development of new drugs in the industrial environment have seen a significant ascent (also in terms of job increment), linked to analytical and structural crystallographic techniques, to which, at the global level, patent legislations and further forensic aspects are progressively conforming.
